Our advices for recovering data from the cloud

Stop using the system to stop all writes to the virtual disk in question and make a copy on another storage device.

Never download new files or software into the virtual environment concerned, as this could lead to permanent data overwriting.

Always work with a backup copy or image file of your data, volume or virtual disk file.

If critical data is inaccessible due to accidental deletion, device failure or corruption, take the volume offline and unmount it immediately.

Resetting or reformatting a problematic volume will remove all data and complicate recovery attempts.

Hosted server data recovery presents an additional set of challenges for recovering lost data. These challenges are not solved by commercial or freeware data recovery utilities.

Operating error on a VMware ESXI server!

A software publisher based in Paris contacted us on Tuesday May 7th at 9pm.

He's hosting customer data and is desperate to get the system up and running again on Friday.

Wednesday and Thursday are public holidays. Wednesday and Thursday are public holidays, so he decides to go on call.

Following a problem configuring the size of a virtual disk under Vmware, his system stops booting and he no longer has access to the datastores. He had just increased the size of the virtual disk from 1 to 1.5 TB.

We received 8 x 1TB Dell SSD NVME (U2 connector) disks from Scalway. The server is a DELL R640 server rack on which is installed a Vmware ESXI 7.2 server.

They don't have a backup!

Within 48 hours, we found all the virtual machines that were stored in the datastores and the SQL 2019 databases of over 300 GB. The sparse files are integrated into the original vbk to obtain the data from the last backup.
